JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Katie: You could watch TV or talk on the phone during your
limited time out of your cell or walk around the
"day room" for exersise. Nothing else was offered to
us at the time and you could only watch 4 channels
on the tv it was very rare that we ever got to see
the news or anything like that.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Katie: the guards were the only ones with access to the
remote and they would pick what you watched and
when you watched it...and if they were in a bad
mood they would turn it off and there were only 2
phones to use so it was usually a line to get to
them. No radios were allowed...very bare bones
detention center!!!!
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Katie: Yes...you couldn't walk around long enough to burn
calories and they feed you alot of carbs and
starches making it even worse on your body.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Katie: We were not allowed to go outside all exercise was
up to you...sit ups crunches jumping jacks push ups
running in place all had to be done inside your
cell.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Katie: ministers were allowed to come anytime they wanted
usually 4 times a week the women would have services
of some kind. They were amazing women who would come
in and not judge anyone but instead show you true
love and friendship! Held in the day room every
time.
