Reviews for Waukesha County Jail
Reviews by Tanya
JM: Which jail did you visit?
Tanya: Waukesha County Jail, Waukesha, WI
JM: How long ago was your visit?
Tanya: Three days
JM: How many times did you visit?
Tanya: 3 times so far
JM: How do you go about making an appointment to see an inmate?
Tanya: They didn't set appointments, there is a
schedule for visitation times on the Website at
http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/defaultwc.aspx?
id=38342
JM: How long did check-in process take?
Tanya: Different each time I visited. For the most
part, I didn't have to wait very long.
JM: Were the guards accommodating?
Tanya: Never talked to a guard, only talked to a person
in an information booth at the vistors center.
The people I dealt with there were helpful.
Just be polite. I witnessed other people
checking in who did not get a lot of help
because of their attitudes.
JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Tanya: There is a lobby with a information booth. You
check in there. There might be a line.
Visitation is through video only. It is not
very private. It's video screens with a stool
in front lined up next to and across from each
other. You pick up the phone, the video
starts. The person you are visiting will talk
to you from video screen on their pod, no
privacy for them either. Other inmates can see
you, you can see people on the pods and there
are people within earshot of for both the vistor
and the inmate.
JM: How long was your visit? Did the guards ever allow you to take extra time?
Tanya: Paying attention to my P's and Q's got me 15
extra mins of visitation time each time I
visited, even though I was only supposed to get
the 15 extra (because I came from out of State)
the first time I visited.
JM: What was the parking situation like?
Tanya: Never had a problem with parking. The lot is
not large, but there were never all that many
people there when I went. I would suggest going
at the earliest time during the day as that
seemed to be when there were the least amount of
people there to visit and the time when you can
get seated furthest away from others. Again, be
polite. It goes a long way with the attendants
at the check-in.
JM: What advice would you offer to somebody who is going to visit an inmate in this jail?
Tanya: Again, be polite to the people checking you in.
They deal with upset and angry people all day.
Say please, say thank you, they do have the
power to make your visit a little better or a
little worse.
