JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Sarah: gym Sandra: Only reading books and watching TV was available. Lyle: There was a book cart that came around, and one
could order cards from commissary, Outdoor rec was
only offered to people in certain Pods, or people
already convicted, and sentenced to that facility.
There was no weight room available, working out was
not allowed, but people did do it in their cells.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Sarah: two tv never really a problem Sandra: I had regular access to the TV but I had to
choose when the programs most important to me
could be viewed. For example, if something was
on early morning I had to make sure the pod was
cleaned by myself. I had to do all the work. Or
I had to watch whatever. Lyle: There usually was only one television, which was in
control of the guards, and was turned off at their
whim, or our volume. If a guy didn't have his own,
or friends, basically, he wouldn't get anything for
free. Trading food stuffs, or canteen, was a way to
get what you want.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Sarah: no Sandra: no, I didnt stay in shape. I never exercise.
There weren't any facilities any way. So I just
ate proper Lyle: Yes, because It is easy to get despondent, and
lazy. The food served was very starchy, and not
incredibly tasty.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Sarah: never Sandra: I was never allowed outside. I could only do
exercise using my body and gravity if I was so
inclined. I wasn't inclined at all Lyle: I did not get to go outside, others did, they could
play baketball. But many just stand around and
stare at the sky. I did not exercise.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Sarah: yes never went Sandra: I do believe I could have gone to services but I
never did. I wasn't in the mood at that time Lyle: Yes, usually a pastor would just come around
handing out flyers, but I believe there were
services for long term inmates.
