Medications

Interview with Hillary, Tye, Eva, Richard and Victor

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Hillary: You have to make an appointment with the doctor or whatever, and you have to pay for that appointment to get on medication. I think it was $5 to see the doctor. If you don't have money, they just put you negative.
Tye: no just when med cart comes
Eva: meds were distributed 3 times a day and sometimes if u were required to get meds anymore than that u were either called out to medical or u just didn't get them. people on meds such as seroquel were denied it unless your family brought it to u and dropped it off but that had to be court ordered. u would pay a $5.00 meds charge each week and if u didn't have money u would just get put in the hole finacially and when u did get money they would take it for medical fees
Richard: nope, just what they have to offer is what youre taking, if you break your leg, theyll be nice and give you only tylenol, tylenol for every single injury, and injuries can get bad in jail.
Victor: No. No. No. They don't care if anyone need meds.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Hillary: They had med call, meds on a cart every morning and in the night.
Tye: med cart came twice a day if u missed u were shit out of luck until the ne3xt one a
Eva: a nurse would come into the pod and u would stand in line most meds are crushed even tho it states not to crush them. they would be put in a lil cup and u would bring water in a cup take the meds show your hands a take your finger and swipe your mouth with your tongue stuck out showing the officer the meds were swallowed.
Richard: through a medican cart that came every am and every pm usually about 10am and 10pm greatly depending on what ward you were in too
Victor: A nurse would come with a cart and one person at a time was served. It was very hard to see a nurse or doctor and scripts were only written for 3 days when it is supposed to be maintenance meds. Then you have to wait to see doc again. It is an impossible system.

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Hillary: They won't let you take the medication anymore, and I think you get locked down. They put you in a cell by yourself where you can't have commissary, no phone calls, its like being grounded.
Tye: i dont know never winesed z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z
Eva: they were usually taken to the hole or solitary confinement for a period of 5- 10 days and given a write up for abuse of medication in some cases the med would be stopped even if the medication was mandatory for your illness. i have witnessed this on several occasions
Richard: you can get written up, go to the hole, get your medications crushed so you can no longer hide them.
Victor: I know of someone getting drups inside but she didn't get caught. So there was no punishment that I am aware of.
