JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications? Ray: It's not like going to the medicine cabinet but
you can get help. The biggest deterrent is the
fact that you are charged $3 every time you need
something. Some will wait it out. Oscar: yes there is always that available in a facility
like that. Marshall: yes i personally always had access to all
medications i needed to be taking
JM: How did you get your medications? Ray: You sing up for sick call, when you go you may
sit there for quite some time and sometimes not
be seen at all. Oscar: I got my medications prescribed but the medical
dept. always messed up on the refills and the
meds would come late Marshall: through a doctor working there at hartford county i
spoken to a psychiatrist and explained to them what
i was taking etc.
JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this? Ray: "Random" urinalysis occures all the time with the
intention of catching and intended target but not
making it too obvious. If caught, an
investigation began and others would be caught.
Usually offenders would go to another holding
area to be questioned. Sometimes new charges
would be given. Oscar: If you got caught abusing drugs you would get a
class a infraction and be sent to rstrictive
housing unit Marshall: i didnt witness anyone being punished for the abuse
of drugs but im sure its happened and theyd either
be taking off the medication or watched taking them
and put in the box
