Meals

Interview with Carol

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Carol: we were given 3 meals per day

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Carol: I have had worse. they gave us alot of bread to help fill us up.. very low protien, lots of pasta. we didnt get anything healthy. fruit and dairy were very scarce. We had koolaide with lunch and dinner. the breakfast was the best meals, i had to make an adjustment to powdered eggs but i got used to them

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Carol: the chicken patties were good. the least favorite food they served was what we called 'kitchen sink' this was all the leftover stuff from the entire week made into one main dish. we would eat that for 2-3 days.

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Carol: yes but only commissary. the commissary was expensive..example ramon noodles cost what 15 cents at a grocery store we paid 85 cents a pack. the worst things that were most expensive was toiletries like deoderant..we got stuff that came in fromm dollar tree and we had to pay 4$ for the cheapest one.
