Leisure Time

Interview with Jessica, Joe Smith, Rod, Ben and Jade

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Jessica: I BELIEVE THEY HAD BOARD GAMES TO PLAY AND A RADIO TO LISTEN TO.
Joe Smith: books, the TV was limited and there was a little area of concrete you could walk around in.
Rod: NOTHING they always came up with a reason it wasnt going to happen
Ben: there was nothing there to pass the time. as i said it was 23 hour lock down and you got 20 minutes 3 times a day to get out of your cell and all you could really do is take a shower and walk around. there were some table to sit and bullshit at too.
Jade: tHERE WAS THE t.v., a.a. CHURCH AND WA;LIKNG AROUNT THE PLACE. oR YOU COULD READ. THERE WAS A LOT OF DOWN TIME AND THERE WAS NOT A LOT TO DO. iT IS PRETTY BORING AND THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO GO TO SCHOOL OR THERE WERE CARD GAMES TO PLAY. tHINGS THAT KEEP YOU STUPID.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Jessica: I HAD REGULAR ACCESS TO EVERYTHING IN MY AREA.
Joe Smith: The TV was limited because you weren't out of your cells for very long.
Rod: no access to anything unless staff directed
Ben: the only entertainment that we had was a small tv. this tv was controlled by the guard so no inmate had any say on what was going to be watch. with that being said there was absolutely no competition for entertainment. You pretty much got up ate your food and then went back to sleep
Jade: tHE ONLY ENTERTAINMENT WAS THE TELEVISION SET AND IT WAS RULED BY EITHER THE MAJORITY OR WHO GOT THERE FIRST. sO IF THE MAJORITY LIKES SOPA OPERS OR YOUR EVERY DAY STUPID SHOWS THEN THAT IS WHA \T WAS WATCHED, UNLESS THE GUARD WANTED TO WATCH THEIR SHOW THEN WE HAD TO WATCH WHAT THEY CHOSE.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Jessica: NO, NOT AT ALL.
Joe Smith: Yes because there wasn't much to do and you spent most of your time in your cell.
Rod: Only because they said i could not walk so fast or i would have to go in my cell
Ben: I did not have any opportunity to stay in shape actually i believe I lost weight because the food was so aweful
Jade: YES, BECOUS EOF THE HIGH CARB FOODS. lOTS OF STARCH, BREAD, POTATOES AND MACA RONI AND CHEESE. pROCESSED FOOOD GALORE.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Jessica: WE NEVER GOT TO GO OUTSIDE.
Joe Smith: Never
Rod: none
Ben: we were not allowed to go outside at all if we wanted some exercise we needed to be creative or walk around the unit on our rec time
Jade: Never, there was no outaide time nor ny fresh air.We weer enot allowed to go outside at all. we walked around the day room for exercise.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Jessica: NOT SURE. I DID NOT ASK ABOUT CHURCH, AS I DO NOT GO.
Joe Smith: They claimed to but I never saw any actually occur.
Rod: unknown if it was on a flier i didnt know when church services were. probably because I didnt read that part
Ben: I was not aware of any church service but they may have offerend them. so I do not have much input
Jade: Yes they held a wide variety of services from diffeant denominations. like three times a week. And it was rewarding and helpful.
