Interview with Karina and Taylor

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Karina: I had driving under suspension charges. A couple of them were for Berkely County, a couple for Dorchester County. When I got stopped I was in Dorchester County. I had warrants in Berkely so was sent there first. When I finished serving all the times for my warrants in Berkely County I was transferred to Dorchester for being a habitual offender.
Taylor: When I was arrested, I had to go to the annex. I stayed there in a holding cell by myself for four days without a shower until the last day. I had one phone call. I had my bond hearing the 2nd day and my bond was 2000 dollars. I eventually got transported to the main jail. I stayed for 48 days until my court date. When I first got there, I found out that I was pregnant. The food sucked so I didn't really eat, I got 2 extra sandwiches a day and a milk. I was allowed out for REC for 4 hours a day and during that time we watched tv, played cards and talked to the other inmates.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Karina: I was pulled over and arrested.
Taylor: No they didn't. I was at a gas station and police were called from a disturbance and they ran my name and I had a warrant.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Karina: When I went to court on the driving under suspension I was ordered to serve 90 days and pay $2400. When I got out of jail on bond for habitual offender I had to go to roll call. I was stopped illegally so the habitual offender charge was dropped.
Taylor: It was nerve racking, but I received time served so I was fine.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Karina: Original charges were driving with a suspended license, 3rd offense and habitual offender. Habitual offender charge was dropped because I was pulled over illegally. I was convicted of driving with a suspended license.
Taylor: False information to a police officer. I got time served for that charge.
