Leisure Time

Interview with Todd

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Todd: Watch TV, read, play cards, go outside in the rec yard.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Todd: You had to order cards of canteen. Your family would have to send books in, but the library or the bookstore had to send it in, and it had to be certain kinds of books. The books couldn't be anything sexual, couldn't be gang related and not too much profanity.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Todd: Yes, because they don't feed you a lot so you lose a lot of weight. We called it the slim fast diet.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Todd: It depends on the weather. If the weather was good we could go out most days, depending on where you are at.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Todd: Yes, once and a while. Not regularly.
