Interview with Tommy

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Tommy: There are (I believe) 6 floors of four pods with around 26 cells in each pod, plus a medical pod.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Tommy: They were referred to by their floor name and either A, B, C, or D. So for instance you might be in 4A or 3D.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Tommy: Women had their own floors, and beyond that the jail is so overcrowded that everybody was mixed in together. When it's not as crowded they seperate the violent offenders from the nonviolent ones, and people who are awaiting sentencing from those who have been sentenced.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Tommy: There are no "nice" parts of the cell blocks. They are all virtually the same. Two levels of cells, and the ground floor has ten tables with built in benches welded to the floor. There were also two showers and a bathroom on the ground floor, as well as three phones to use during rec time. The actual cells are five by nine with two beds affixed to the wall, one or two tables affixed to the wall to sit things on, and a combination sink/toilet.
