Pre-sentencing

Interview with Mizzell and Neil

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Mizzell: I went to my arraignment and made a plea deal of five years for my greater charge to be dropped down to a lower felony of manufacturing second That was after the grand jury done gave me a true bill on these charges and others I had
Neil: Very fast process. Arrested around 6pm and was placed in front of the judge by 10am the next morning (via closed circuit TV). I was in front of the judge in only a short period of time after I met with my lawyer. My lawyer was very helpful with this whole process....get a very good lawyer!

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Mizzell: First time I went to Walmart to meet my best friend and his girlfriend to get money he owed me. The girlfriend had wet a confidental informant there and sold dope to her I got into the vehicle with them got the twenty as I was getting into my car task force ran up on us I had twenty dollars marked money. They also had a lab in there vehicle so the twenty linked me to them and I got a charge
Neil: No. Stopped and arrested in the community. I had possession of control substances/prescriptions on my person without a legal prescription. I was searched and the meds were found. I was taken directly to the Talladega county jail by a deputy. My vehicle was sent to a tow yard. The officers were ok to deal with under the situation.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Mizzell: It was scary being my first time ever being in trouble I remember my hands shaking and I wanted to cry when I got sentenced but I held on I knew I was going to prison but reality set in once the judge said those words five years in the pen
Neil: Very organized process. Waited about 30 min before I was in front of the judge. He reviewed the case, he asked me a few questions, then he asked if I would consider a rehab facility. I sais yes, and I was in rehab within 24 hours. I spent 1 year in a in-house rehab facility.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Mizzell: I had manufacturing n he first degree second and possession of a controlled substance
