Telephones

Interview with Elise, Jack, Justin and Sean

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Elise: yes
Jack: Yes, the phones came on at about 8:30am and went off at about 9:30pm. The only time they were off was during time to eat and count time.
Justin: yes IF YOUR FAMILY HAS ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THE CRAZY HIGH PRICES
Sean: you do but if you dont have money, which you cant get in jail, then theyre pointless

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Elise: I was calling Florida, and was told that one of my calls was around $30 for 15 minutes. I didn't know anyone local, so I don't know what those charges were
Jack: People on the outside have to buy calling cards and add the money to your account using your ID number. It was $2.50 per call.
Justin: i SPENT 30 TO 40 DOLLARS PER WEEK EACH CALL IS 3.40 FOR 15 MIN
Sean: on average an inmate could spend fifty to one hundred fifty dollars per week..approximately that

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Elise: no
Jack: You got one free 1 minute call and had to have someone add money after that.
Justin: NO BUT YOUR FAMILY HAS TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT WITH THE JAILS PHONE COMPANY
Sean: yes, without money , your outta luck

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Elise: not that I knew. But most all calls are monitored in some way.
Jack: I am sure they did. It says it on the calls.
Justin: yES ALL CALLS R RECORDED
Sean: it says in the handbook that they do
