JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Ed: FCC has a full court gym. They also had a full
weight room when I first went in. I think the
weight room was eventually removed over the years
and turned into temporary bath rooms. The gym has
also been turned into a housing unit when theres
overcrowding. There is also day rooms with TV's
and tables in each wing.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Ed: There was always competition for the TV in the
wings I think its gotten worst over the years.
The tables are used for cards but there is
usually space to read and do other things. The
gym was always full and it was hard to get in on
full court basketball games.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Ed: The gym was crowded at FCC but I ran and did
other work outs. It was hard staying in shape at
the half way house because there was only a small
weight room.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Ed: You weren't allowed outside in the winter, Im not
sure about the summer. The halfway house you wer
allowed outside a lot and you were also allowed
to get a job in the community.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Ed: Yes there were church services but I never
attended. There weren't any church services at
the halfway house. I might have attended one
service at FCC, it was in small room.
