JM: Did you have regular access to telephones? Scott: yes Carrie: somewhat, at least 8 hours a day. John: yes the inmates has a system that allowed free
phone calls.don't know how did not ask all i know
remember is I would trade candy for time on the
phone. Sophie: when we weren't on lockdown we had access to two a
few hours a day
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls? Scott: you can buy calling cards on the store but a
average 15 minute phone call costs about 6.00
dollars. Carrie: It cost .25 cents a minute. of course you have to
have money on your books to make any calls. I
personally spent about $200 over the 3 months I
was there and I didn't get to use the phone very
much. Some girls would spend $100 per week. John: don't know how did not ask all i know remember is
I would trade candy for time on the phone. Sophie: I don't know, my calls were made collect to my
family... a lot of inmates didn't have money on
their books because they used the phone too much
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out? Scott: no. Carrie: No. you had to have money on your books. John: yes but same as obove 2 Sophie: no, phone cards were not available
JM: Did the jail screen your calls? Scott: yes Carrie: They say they record them and listen to them at a
later date. I really am not sure tho. John: I am sure they did but only called my wife tried
to keep chatter to min and did not say thing else Sophie: yes, we had to enter our booking number and pin
number into the phones prior to making calls or
having visitors so they can screen the calls
