JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Rick: Had a row of about 9 phones. There were always
lines waiting for them. They'd turn them on after
breakfast and turn them off at 9. Sometimes they
would just turn them off at will to mess with
you.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Rick: I don't know but I knew it was expensive. I
hardly make the call back home.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Rick: No. They never had anything like that.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Rick: Absolutely. They had a voice come on at the
beginning of the call to tell you that.
