Inmates

Interview with Raymond

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Raymond: I never had any problems fitting in with the crowd. The first time you go to jail it can be awkard if you don't know what's going on. But after awhile you get a sense of how you should behave and how to treat someone else.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Raymond: You're judged by the way you behave in jail the same way you would be judged on the street. You can't fake. You can't pretend to be tough and then not be tough when the times comes. You have to follow the rules in the house and not think you're above it all.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Raymond: Yeah you could. The more your comfortable then the less trouble there will be all around.
