Telephones

Interview with Brandon

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Brandon: Yes, at least once a day.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Brandon: I honestly don't know the rates. I just know that you have to have someone on the outside set up a prepaid account in order for you to be able to call them. No way I could figure an average because some guys would spend every minute of free time on the phone. For me I was rarely ever on the phone.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Brandon: No, your people on the outside purchase a pre paid account.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Brandon: There was a message before each call that the call could be monitored.
