JM: How many different blocks were there? Lena: There were pods with 15 cells in each pod. I
don't know how many there were. They were like
little beehives. Janis: I believe it was six. Anna: I only remember the section I was at. There were 3
different blocks in one section. Malcolm: there were 15 different blocks with 4 different
units in each block
JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they? Lena: They called them by numbers and letters. Janis: A, B, C, D, E, F, these were the units,
certain units were geared for parolees
only or new offenders. Anna: Yeah I was arrested awhile ago. I don't remember
sorry. I believe each section had different letters. Malcolm: they are call units and the housin
JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks? Lena: They would separate the violent inmates from the
non-violent. Janis: Parolees and parole violators were
usually housed together in D, E, and F.
The closer up in the alphabet you were
was usually a better environment for
your time. A little more quieter, with
people who just wanted to program and
go home. Anna: Well I was put with other female inmates with
pending felony convictions. I didn't get to
associate with other inmates in other blocks. We
were completed sectioned off. There's no way I
would have been able to associate with any of the
other inmates.
JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks? Lena: The worst was it was always cold. It's like
you're livingin a walk in fridge for 21 hours.
Overall, I supposed it's not all that terrible.
Janis: There was not anything nice about any
particular block. The level of drama just
fluctuated with each one. But the blocks
that held the parolees was like a "i've
been there, done that already, it's about
respect, if we gotta fight then let's go"
attitude. The new offenders or repeat
county offenders were whiny, but the
atmosphere was more optimistic. Anna: My section was never allowed the opportunity to go
outside. I do remember other sections being
allowed to. Nobody was in trouble with the
correctional officer's. I don't know they were
rude in my section. There was nothing nice about
being in there. Everything just looked really
dirty. I was glad to get transferred out when I did.
