JM: Did you have regular access to telephones? Eric: No never besides i did not have any body to call.
They always said something like i have lost all my privileges.
And since i did not care , fine with me. Dominic: There were telephones available for usage. Carlos: Yes, there were about eight phones per cell
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls? Eric: Do not know do not care less i never call any body.
Nobody ever call me either. Dominic: i dont know about the charges that were applied for
phone calls. I know most calls can be done collect.
I am guessing that the average inmate would maybe
spend twenty to thirty dollars a week on telephone
calls depending on the frequency of their calls Carlos: I do not remember what the rates were but we spent
about $25 per week. I was on the high end of the
average I think, there were guys that would spend a
lot more and some that didn't call anyone because
their family couldn't afford it. I would estimate
the avg inmate spends approximately $10 per week.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out? Eric: I do not care less Dominic: They had a system set up called GTl where family and
friends could set up telephone accounts for phone
calls. Carlos: No the person you are calling needs to pre purchase
minutes from a service that works with the jail
prior to calling.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls? Eric: Who cares, i dont , i never made any calls anyways. Dominic: Im sure the jail does screen phone calls. Carlos: According to a sign above the phones they claim that
they do.
