Interview with Aaron, Jessica, Walter, Margaret and Sherry
JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications? Aaron: Yes if it was warranted. I had no need for medication and if I got a
severe headache I was out of luck because I had to write to the
nurse that I was having headaches and then they had to check me
out at the nurse's office which normally took up 3-4 hours of my
day and, no pun intended, it wasn't worth the HEADACHE. Jessica: I didn't require any medication. Walter: no. If you'll forgive the expression, getting
medical care unless you are bleeding profously
is like pulling teeth. Margaret: NO THEY DID MEDICINE AT CERTAIN TIMES Sherry: Sometimes but not all the time.
JM: How did you get your medications? Aaron: A nurse came around 2-3 times a day and called out people's
names to come up and get whatever they had to give you. They did
it all via computer so there weren't any mess-ups. You could refuse
your meds if you wanted to but you had to sign a waiver at first
until they got used to your rejections and they would eventually
stop calling your name. Walter: Med pass twice a day when the nurse comes to the
POD with her little medication cart. It is at
tthis time that you may request/turn in a sick
call to see the doctor. Even putting in this cal
lto see the doctor costs an inmate $12 Margaret: A NURSE WOULD COME IN THE BLOCKS THREE TIMES A
DAY, AND MAKE YOU WAIT IN A LINE THEN GIVE IT
OUT. Sherry: When you go to the clinic and get checked then
the nurse would come to the pod and give your
meds.
JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this? Aaron: I didn't see any abuse of drugs or heard of any punishments laid
out for that type of activity. Once in a while someone would have a
cigarette that they paid way too much for and when they caught
that guy with it they kicked him out of the pod which I would
consider a harsh punishment considering how good we had it in
there compared to the other pods. Walter: Possibly new charges for introduction of
contraband or being sent to lock down(23 hour
confinement). No I never witnessed anyone
getting caught doing this. Margaret: IF YOU GOT CAUGHT ABUSING DRUGS, THEY WOULD
WRITE YOU UP, PACK YOUR STUFF UP, AND PUT YOU IN
A HOLDING CELL Sherry: I believe you would go to charlie, because your
taking something that did'nt belong to you, and
thats another charge.
