JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Dennis: There were library books, magazines, several
different local and national newspapers were
available. You could also buy playing cards
through commissary to play different games. They
sometimes had paper and color pencils to draw
with. Also in the outside rec area there was a
basketball hoop and a walking track
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Dennis: I had regular access to most of the above
entertainment. Sometimes in the rec area it would be
hard to get in to. Especially after meals or when
there would be a set basketball game between units.
As for the newspapers, you had better get up early
or people would take them
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Dennis: No, actually it is much easier to exercise in jail
because you have nothing but free time on your hands
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Dennis: Usually you could go outside twice a day. Basketball
and exercise were the two major things to do as well
as just soaking up the sun when it would shine in
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Dennis: Yes they held several different denomination
services on a weekly or biweekly basis. They were
usually held in visiting areas or in the dining room
