Pre-sentencing

Interview with Dennis

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Dennis: I was housed in a 6 man cell for close to two years while awaiting sentencing. I would take the bus downtown to the main jail facility which is attached to the courthouse to wait underground to go to court. I was out on bond prior to this and had my lawyers fighting my charge.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Dennis: No. I was set up by someone who had been caught before and was trying to work off his charges. I was watched for over two weeks then I was finally pulled over as I was to see this person. I was arrested in the street and then taken to jail.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Dennis: Court was a very exhausting experience. While i was out on bond it was not too bad. My lawyer and I wanted to find out as much info as possible before determining our course of action. Once I was in jail the process was much different. They would take me to court and let me sit there all day w/out seeing the judge trying to get me to turn other people in. But finally realizing I wouldnt talk they made me a plea.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Dennis: My original charges were two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs. I was finally convicted on two counts of trafficking in MDMA
