JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process: Darren: I was arrested when I was living at my brothers
house. He was arrested for cruelty to animals.
He also had some marijuana growing in his
closet, bedroom, and another bedroom. I was
arrested for that also because I was home at the
time and they figured I had something to do with
it too.
JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested. Darren: Yes, I was put in handcuffs and taken away.
Once I got there they didn't take me to regular
booking. I was taken to a detectives office and
shackled. I was left like that for about 12
hours. It was in an office type area. I was put
in this little questioning room and was left
there for a long period of time. Finally when
they took me away from there they walked me
across the street, but they couldn't book me
because I was too sick. I had pneumonia and my
blood pressure was too high. I was taken to the
hospital and given some antibiotics. Then they
took me back to Musgogee County and tried to
question me and get me to flip on somebody. I
guess my blood pressure was down enough that
they put me in holding, the drunk cell like
everybody else.
JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall. Darren: When I went to court my brother and I were in
the same room together. People that were
helping him got him a paid lawyer and I didn't
get one. His bond was originally over $100,000
and mine was $20,0000. Within 2 weeks his was
reduced and he got out. I had nobody helping
me. I remained in jail for close to 3 months
before I could bail out.
JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of? Darren: I haven't been convicted. I haven't been to
court yet except finding out about being on
bond. It's been bound over to superior court.
I am charged with manufacturing marijuana.
