Interview with Chuck and Blake
JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Chuck: Yes, I could access a telephone every 2-3
hours.
Blake: They had regular access to phones.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Chuck: You can call collect. I'm not sure how much the
collect calls cost. Collect is the only way to
call out of the jail.
Blake: I believe it was a dollar per call, like 10 min and
the average
spends about 10 dollars a week.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Chuck: No. They didn't have phone cards you could
buy.
Blake: No we were allowed to call our families collect
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Chuck: I assume they were.
Blake: They played a message stating they screened
every phone
call
