JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Travis: A recreation area we called the 'rec. deck'. Basically consisting of a
basketball hoop and stationary gym. Which was a pull up bar with
some other bars sticking off of it in order to do various work outs.
Televisions with limited programming available. Cards, and other
games like chess or scrabble were available.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Travis: In most cases I was able to use anything when I wanted to. There
were times however when the rec. deck would be over crowded and
I would try to avoid it. Or if there were people playing basketball. In
pod-H the crowding got so bad that sometimes I wouldn't even
leave my cell.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Travis: No, I actually got into fantastic shape. I lost nearly 40 pounds and
tried to eat as healthily as possible.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Travis: Never allowed outside but the rec. deck allows for fresh air and
sunlight. I maintained a strict work out regimen, doing cardio
workouts three times a week via running in place, jumping jacks,
etc.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Travis: Yes, they were generally well done. I didn't attend often, but the few
times that I did, they seemed organized and passionate.
