Inmates

Interview with Ezekiel

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Ezekiel: NO NOT REALLY BECAUSE I WAS ONE OF THE OLDEST GUYS IN THE JAIL ,IT WAS SORT OF A GIVIN RULE ,DON'T MESSS WITH THE OLD DUDES JUST LET THEM DO THERE TIME.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Ezekiel: WELL AT FIRST YOU JUST KEEP TO YOURSELF-- I READ A LOT OF BOOKS ,I STAYED BUSY DOING LAUNDRY AND HANDING OUT FOOD ,PLUS I WAS IN A LOT OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL PROGRAMS ,AND I KNEW A FEW HACKS (GUARDS)--I KEPT TO MYSELF MOST OF THE TIME ,AND EXERCISE HELP OUT A LOT OF THE TIME

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Ezekiel: NO AT FIRST THE HACKS (GUARDS) PUT YOU IN A CELL WITH TWO PEOPLE YOU DIDN'T KNOW FROM A HOLE IN THE WALL BUT AS TIME WENT BY YOU USE THE SYSTEM TO THE BEST OF YOUR ADVANTAGE AND USUALLY END UP WITH PEOPLE YOU GET TO KNOW OR YOU KNEW FROM THE STREETS
