Clothing

Interview with Sam

JM: What clothes could you have brought in to wear in the jail (underwear, socks, etc.)?
Sam: Everyone had to buy their underwear and socks from commissary. They had to go without socks and underwear unless they were booked in with white underwear or socks, then they would have to wear the same ones until commissary day.

JM: If you had a set uniform, what did it look like? Please be specific about each piece of clothing issued to you.
Sam: We were given the typical jail garb to wear. A top with no collar, no buttons, or a zipper, with a "V" neck. Pants with an elastic waste band, and some sort of super cheap sandal.

JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned?
Sam: I don't think their was any jail garb in high demand except for being issued the correct size, or a more comfortable oversized piece of the uniform. Nobody wants to go for the 'tight' look in jail...for the most part.

JM: Was the clothing different between men and women?
Sam: I saw a few of the women inmates, and they were wearing the same uniform, except for a different color than the mens uniforms.
