Pre-sentencing

Interview with Lillie

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Lillie: it was horrible! I got escorted in the middle of the night by two male police officers from Niles,to St.Joseph. Cells were way overcrowded. There was about 20 to 25 women in each cell. The wait to are the judge took a very long time. Then, when I got bailed out the judge didn't write down my court date

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Lillie: They came to my 65 year old Great, aunt's house at 11:45 at night to arrest me. They woke me up, didn't read me my rights, and two male officers escorted me 45 minutes away from the city I was arrested in I was terrified and didn't know what was happening

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Lillie: I got to the courthouse at 8:30 am and didn't see the judge until 2:30 pm. The judge was very rude and publicly embarrassed me. Did not listen to a word I told him. And I feel I got sentenced to more than what I should have been since my boyfriend at that time did the crime

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Lillie: Falsifying police report felony it ended up as a misdemeanor
