Leisure Time

Interview with Laura

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Laura: there were a few books that were given to us to read and they also let us watch tv on sundays. If you had enough money on your commisary then you could buy a deck of cards or an mp3 player or things of that nature to help pass time.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Laura: No i did not have regular access to entertainment as explained in the last question... the only thing that was free were tv on sundays and books. as far the competion goes sometimes you had to wait for other people to be done reading a good book and might argue about who gets it next.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Laura: i had a hard time staying in shape because i dont excersize and the food they serve there is fatty.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Laura: i didnt get to go outside i think because it was winter time time. but there was a space set up with a basketball court so im sure they let them go out in summer.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Laura: on sundays there was a couple that came out from a church to talk to us, we were given the choice wether we wanted to go or not.
