Telephones

Interview with Striker

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Striker: No. The Nine man cell did not have a telephone in it, but the Eighteen man cell did have several along one wall.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Striker: Now, this is only hearsay, as I did not make any calls while I was in there, and this is merely what other inmates have told me, but from what I understand, the charges on the phone calls were outrageous, and the average inmate's loved one had a phone bill that was $30-$50 a week just for 5-10 minutes every day or two spent talking to each other.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Striker: No. All calls were collect calls.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Striker: They claimed they did in a recording that played while on the phone, but I have no proof of whether or not this is actually true.
