Leisure Time

Interview with Raymond

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Raymond: i didn't have any extra facilities where i was at. i did get to watch t.v. which was pretty bad since it was hard to decide what to watch to keep everyone happy. i mostly read a lot of books to pass my time i also worked out a few hours a day.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Raymond: i did have regular access but it was fierce competition. my first block they were always making remotes as they called them to change the t.v. as they wanted which made that easy. the second block we could change them as we wanted sincde we could reach the t.v. through the bars.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Raymond: i had actually got in excellent shape in jail. i lost twenty pounds and my blood pressure went down to a near perfect range

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Raymond: i got to go outside as a trustee to work. the first time i went outside was to take out trash at night i almost cried it was so surreal

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Raymond: on sundays and wed. we hard pastors come buy and preach to us. it was great. even people who didnt believe would listen. i saw a few people get saved.
