JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Janet: we had what they call recreation for hour a day.
which consist of going in a open gym with a
basket ball and one hoop. we had classes that
went on daily except sunday that allowed us time
out. and the work program gave one eligible for
that time out at least three hours or more.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Janet: as far as being able to go to the classes there
was usually enough room for us to go, if not we
had to take turns. for recreation we went by
individual pods so everyone got to go that wanted
to. to be able to watch tv was a challenge in
combo and dorm pods cause they had bossy ones
that controlled the tv. in inmate worker we made
schedules and got along so everyone had fair
share at this
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Janet: yes I did there is not much exercise there is a
exercise bike in dorm and combo. but other than
basketball on the hour a day we walked in our
pods or in gym instead of basketball. but I
gained 35 pounds during my four months.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Janet: we got to go outside weather permitting to a
small cement area that had a basketball hoop and
ball. as a inmate worker I got to go out to
shovel snow ocassionally if needed.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Janet: they were on Monday. and didn't care for the
service because they talked more about drug use
than religion areas.
