Pre-sentencing

Interview with Janet

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Janet: At the pre- sentencing they read you what your being charged with. they appoint you a attorney if your eligible or give you time if you hire one. you find out what your facing as far as time you could get for this charge. you get a discovery packet of charges and evidence they have against you.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Janet: I was arrested on a theft charge for being with someone but it got turned into robbery charge. I went to jail on a driving under suspension charge that I dint get my license back on so had warrant, where I was sentenced six months and got indicted while I was there on a trafficking charge of three counts.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Janet: court was scary for my felony charges, because I had never had to go through anything other than misdemeanor charges. I just got sentenced on my driving under suspension, didn't go to court. but on the felony charge I knew I was facing a lot of time for me, having three charges. my attorney was very good at explaining everything to me and working for me to get as least as possible being first offense.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Janet: I was had a f4,f4 and f5 trafficking charge. was convicted of a f4 and a f5.
