JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Kay: Playing cards, reading, writing, cleaning, making a
call, or talking, we had time out of our cell from
6-9 at night every night and that was it, no TV or
anything an the book people would come around once
a month and let you pick a book out to read, other
than that there was nothing else to do.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Kay: There was nothing to do there other than what I
described above. We literally had to make up our
own games and stuff to pass our time. Playing
cards was the big favorite there, or cherades or
something. People would have magazines or books
sent in, and another thing was, women used to talk
through the toilet to the men!
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Kay: No, we walked the tiers up and down the steps, and
you didnt eat very well there so you would lose
weight.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Kay: You never went outside, the only time I did was
when I went to court. We had a gym we could go to
inside of the building for an hour a night.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Kay: We had church on Sundays and that was the best
time, they were very nice, and they took you out
of the jail zone.
