Inmates

Interview with Brad

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Brad: in state prison as long as you respect others they will usually leave you alone and mind there own business as long as you do the same.but there are also some people who will go out of there way to give you a hard time.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Brad: you will mostly be fine as long as you mind your own and respect peolple.but in prison other inmates will test you to see if you act weak and if you are perceived as weak many inmates will push you around, steal from you and sometimes extort you for your weekly commissary or food in the chow hall.personally when this was tried on me i got into a fight on more than one occassion and over time people left me alone for good.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Brad: yes you could choose a specific inmate as your celly.you had to sign a cell agreement the other inmate and it has to be approved by the unit manager of the specific block you are on.cell agreements lasted for 3 months.
