Pre-sentencing

Interview with Blake

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Blake: you get arressted for the initial charge.then after 2 weeks in county jail you recieve a preliminary hearing.at this hearing the DA will either offer you a plea deal or just send you back to county lock up until they decide the proper punishment for you.it is usually probation time.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Blake: usually when you only commit a misdermeanor crime you will recieve the charges in the mail.the letter will state when your court hearing is to take place.if you dont show up they will put out a warrant for your arresst.then you have to wait another 2 weeks for a new hearing.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Blake: in your preliminary hearing you will meet only with your lawyer and he will tell you what the DA is offering.so you can take the deal right there or if it doesnt seem right you can waive the case up to the main courthouse.then you really have no say in the matter.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Blake: to many to remember but. the most recent was for writing bad checks.and i couldnt pay back the checks so i got got charged with Theft BY Deception.
