Visitor Policy

Interview with Tommy

JM: How often could you receive visitors?
Tommy: After you had been there for a week you could have visitors three times a week for about an hour each visit, and not on consecutive days.

JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you?
Tommy: Everyone had to get a background check done before they could come visit. After that is done, they had to get their picture taken. Every time they came they had to sign in, have the guard check their picture to make sure it was them, and then wait 15-30 minutes to get on the elevator and be taken up to the visiting room.

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Tommy: It was a long room with about six visiting stations. You were separated from your visitor by glass and had to talk through a phone. There were dividers between each station so that you had privacy from other inmates, but the guard was always watching from the tower and could talk to you and your visitors via an intercom.
