Pre-sentencing

Interview with Raquel

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Raquel: I sat in jail for almost about five and a half months just waiting to go to court,, and that is because I had even hired my own paid attorney. The system is corrupted, they are more leanant towards males than they are to females. Our punishment is more severe than they would give to a male.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Raquel: No, I had went to my mothers house in los fresnos, texas to pick up her truck and as i was on my way house I got pulled over because I had a tail light out. As the officer was going to give me a ticket he Then found out I had no licence, so i then got arrested. My mother then paid my ticket but I was unable to be released due to other charges I had pending.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Raquel: Court was very long, but like I said out system is corrupted. There was a Man in that court room given One year probation for rapping his 15yr old step son, and I got two yrs probation for writing a check with unsufient funds to get food. Its just not right.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Raquel: Original charges were check fraud. I was convicted of theft of property
