Telephones

Interview with Todd and Antwon

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Todd: yes as long as you had someone paying high prices to this company called global tel link that was the only way you could use the phone which when alot of people go to jail they dont have people to accept the calls
Antwon: yes for$3.00 a call that lasted for only 15 min but most of the time the phones would cut out and everybody would lose their money.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Todd: well when i was in county jail it was three dollars per call for 15 minutes and in prison it was like 6to 10 dollars per call
Antwon: Local calls were three dollars a call for fifteen minutes.Approximately 20-50 dollars per week if you could afford it.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Todd: no
Antwon: Yes you had to purchase phone cards unless your loved ones accepted collect calls

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Todd: yes they record all phone conversations
