JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Jamie: There was lots of old romance books to read. That
kept you busy. There were three tv sets that were
kept at a low volume that i did not watch because
of hearing problems. Mostly there was an out door
cement patio where i could see outside I enjoyed
sitting out there talking with other people Karina: Well i know they had Na / aa facilitators come
in and do meetings with the inmates that wanted
to , also they had a ged class, and parenting
and also they had a lot of bible study in there
for who ever wanted to join and it was nice
becaus they would have one atleast 3 times a week
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Jamie: The tv area was racially place so i tried to
avoid the area. There were lots of book to read
so there was not much competition. There were
other things that you could buy on commissary to
entertain yourself if you had the money Karina: Well we had 3 televisions and each television
usually was set already for one for mexicans
for spanish shows one for the black and the
other for the whites, but it did not matter you
could sit were you wanted to sit you did not
have to sit with your race
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Jamie: No i did a lot of walking around the patio area.I
worked in the kitchen and cleaned and mopped for
something to do. The meals were low calorie and
most of the time you were still hungry.I also
exercised in my cell Karina: no you could run or walk around the tv room or
go outside whten it was time to go outside and
walk
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Jamie: Every day even though it was just a small area it
helped me to know that the world was still out
there Karina: We got to go outside at least twice a week and
walk and enjoy a soda or so breath some fresh
air it was nice
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Jamie: yes Various churches would come in through the
week. Depending on the denomination i would go.
As soon as the can on the floor the deputy would
announce the church and make it available for
people to go even if we were locked down Karina: Yes they had a lot of bible studies and not just
one type of religion they had a few of them
