Medications

Interview with Deidre

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Deidre: We could have tylenol if our family provided a bottle of them. I was given blood pressure medicince but I was denied the medicine my physciatrist prescribed me. Dr. Bates gave me Zoloft after I had been there about 12 weeks. I have mental illness and went in on suicide watch, and was denied my blood pressure medicince for a few days because of being on watch.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Deidre: A nurse would give you your medications at different times a day. Occasionally a jailor would if it was a really odd time of night or an antibiotic.

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Deidre: I don't know. One girl was caught with needles on her after someone ratted on her for not sharing and we were told she was charged with contraband of the needles, not drugs, because they found no drugs.
