JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Todd: yes because it was so overcrowded that there
were usually 3or 4 people to a what is normally
a 2 man cell so we would get aggrivated real
easily just due to people being crowded up on
top of each other and not having any privacy
while using the bathroom or simply just changing
after a shower Antwon: For the most part I kept to myself and going to
the Chapel once a week and meeting good people and
keeping in touch with my family was the only thing
that made me keep my sanity. But it is hard for
people to keep their sanity in that jail because
you are on 24hr lock down. They only let you go
outside for 1hr a day once a month. The rest of the
time you are stuck in a small confined space. The
way they had people crammed was 5 people to a cell
that was meant for 2 people.People were sleeping
on thin worn out mats with their heads next to a
leaking toilets!!
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Todd: me personally i never had too many problems with
fighting because i did alot of reading and
writing and doing vthings like excersing in the
day room and simply just staying to myself
however i did have a few fights for things like
people saying rude stuff or trying to take my
books without asking me for permission Antwon: I personally didnt have any problems with any
inmates because i was the most educated one in my
wedge. I used my time wisely and helped other
illiterate inmates write and read their letters to
their loved ones and also tutored some to get their
GED. Also ignore ignorant people.
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Todd: yes Antwon: No we were not able to choose cellmates because it
was too overcrowded like I said I slept on a hard
floor for months until someone either got released
or got moved for fighting. Cellmates could change
sparatically.
