Inmates

Interview with Tom and Joe

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Tom: no other inmates were just as scared as I was,
Joe: it wasnt difficult to get along with other inmates because alot of the inmates just wanted to do their time and get out back to their families. Every now and then we had the occasional person that was stressed out so thats when the fighting and tension began.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Tom: There were no problems with other inmates, but I felt like the gaurds were looking for any excuse to start a fight while there, I saw several inmates attacked by gaurds
Joe: well i just kept to my self and tried to keep myself occupied with drawings or letters to my loved one. Every now and then i had an inmate try and start a fight but i defused the situation by not talking back and trying to calm the person down.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Tom: no...
Joe: no we were assigned cells depending if their was room or not and we didnt have new cellmates often because the pod i was in was for people that had to do 60 or more days.
