Good Behavior

Interview with Larry, Tawnie and Henry

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Larry: no! there is no getting off early in san mateo county. But the first time I was there I ended up getting picked up by a lady to go to the program from jail/ I went to a program called project 90 and completed it.
Tawnie: No I did not. I was sentenced to the exact number of days I served when I went to court for my pre-trial hearing.
Henry: im sure i did. working gained me a few points and it helped me shorten my sentance. shoot, i taught the "staff" how to run the kitchen! they had to love me.lol

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Larry: they say that they take a 3rd of your time off in san mateo county. But i have not experienced that myself. I have been there many times but the longest I was there was the first time and I stayed 6 months. I didnt have a definite time to be there.
Tawnie: In san mateo county, you get one extra day credited for every two days served. So if you are sentenced to one year (12 months), you only serve 8 months.
Henry: i am not sure about this, and it might differ from county to county, state to state.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Larry: The best thing I would suggest to do is to stay out of trouble and keep to yourself. When your known too much there are bound to be people who dont like you which leads to trouble.
Tawnie: Any physical fights will get your good time taken away. Other than that, I only saw people get their commissary or family visits taken away.
Henry: avoid negativity and talking to people who look or act on edge.avoid talking back to co and staff in a negative tone. avoid being rude to anyone.i have witnessed many people lose good time because they take something personal, or they finally snap, or they just have gotten fed up with the way police treat you in jail that they don't care about the good time anymore..what's good time to someone who is treated like a filthy animal? they say, take it and smile...or hate it and get more time..
