JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Gordy: Not much, recreation, books, etc. Jeff: We had a recreation room handball
we should go to Chapel there was
also a basketball court the inmates
could use daily other than that
there was no other extracurricular
activities available for the
inmates in the recovery pod unit
for inmates to access during their
stay at the jail Philip: Depending on your housing unit, there was
a basketball and handball court. There
were weekly church services as well
asndrug and alcohol counseling. There were
GED studies that occurred throughout the
weekv. There was a library cart that would
come around every 2 weeks allowing toy to
check out 2 vooks
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Gordy: there a lot of competition Jeff: It was a fairly large recreational
area so there was usually no need
for wait time.it was open from
approximately 9 a_m to 9 p_m after
that lights or out and the rec area
was close for the evening.
Available for use again the next
day Chappelle was on Sunday is
based on your religious beliefs Philip: Access was clique oriented the largest
group had the most clout. access was not
regular, in most cases leisure time was
cut short or canceled due to corrections
personnel not having the patience to
organize the inmates and transport them to
wherever leisure time wouldbbebbeing held.
Dominant inmates would control the
environment.
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Gordy: If you dont know how to stay in shape I would say
you would have a hard time Jeff: No there's plenty of space to walk
do pushups situps pullups things of
that nature. I'm not an individual
who has much concern about my
physical well-being as my
metabolism is so high I pretty much
just stay in shape all the time Philip: Not at all. There wasn't much to do but
pushups situps and pull ups. The low
calorie diet ensures weight loss as wrll
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Gordy: Never Jeff: We exercise in the rec area section
of the jail it was not outside yet
it had open windows with bars to
wear fresh air could enter Philip: I never had an opportunity to go outside
during my stay. Working out was done in my
own cell by myself but never our side
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Gordy: yes they can not deny anyone practice of their
religion in a small room Jeff: The jail did offer to church
services I did attend on Sundays
they were quite pleasant with
upbeat pastors singing dance Philip: Church services were held Sundays. They
were very disorganized and typically just
an excuse for inmates to exchange
contraband
They also had a Wednesday bible study
vutni never attended
