Interview with Tom, Oscar, Ralph, Robert and Bert

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Tom: yes
Oscar: no most ofthem dont work
Ralph: There was an outside block of telephones but they were always busy and some tougher inmates would try to intimidate you to give them the phone even while you were still using it. Only collect calls could be made.
Robert: Yes
Bert: in the whitfirld county yeah if you had money to use them and in prison twice a day

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Oscar: a $10 or $20phone card
Ralph: Only collect calls.
Robert: 3 bucks a minute
Bert: 100 a week it was between 10-15 a call. most people couldn't afford to call there familys '

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Oscar: yeah it was f*ed up
Ralph: There were none then.
Robert: No the party u are calling can get u a phone card but just for that number or u can call a house phone and use collect
Bert: no your family had to put money on a special account

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Tom: yes
Oscar: yeah most the time
Ralph: Probably!
Robert: I'm not sure but I pretty sure they might of heard my conversation
Bert: yes they said no but then we found out other wise
