Clothing

Interview with Nick and Phillip

JM: What clothes could you have brought in to wear in the jail (underwear, socks, etc.)?
Nick: boxers, socks, t-shirts and long underwear shirts. if you are wearing the stuff when you come in and it is all white they will let you wear it in.
Phillip: underwear socks t-shirts supposed to be all whites but if you are a regular and know the guards in intake you can get away with pretty much anything

JM: If you had a set uniform, what did it look like? Please be specific about each piece of clothing issued to you.
Nick: the only clothing issued to you is either an orange or a tan one piece jumpsuit depending on whether you are sentenced or not. everything else you either come in with or you buy
Phillip: pretrial had to wear an orange one piece jump suit and sneakers , either black sneaker supplied by the jail or whites one bought through commissary. Sentenced wore a khaki jumpsuit. The facility was supposed to supply two jump suits but seldom did

JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned?
Nick: no there is nothing in demand that they give out to you.
Phillip: inmates do not get choice they give you get what you get

JM: Was the clothing different between men and women?
Nick: there were no women housed in middleton when i was there
Phillip: No women in Essex county
