Meals

Interview with Nick and Phillip

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Nick: you get three meals per day
Phillip: we were served three meals every day

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Nick: the food was terrible because the sheriff is trying to save as much money as possible. not only that but there is barely enough for a child to survive. the company which provides the food is also trying to make as much money as they can so the less food they use the better and the cheaper the quality the better. if you do not make canteen you cannot really work out
Phillip: Very bad. Quality is poor amount is small . Its made by the prisoners and supervised by a worker from Aramrk the vender. Nothing is fresh its all prepared and very salty . Lots of bread and starch. In Lawrence the food is little better because the are only cooking for 300 not 15oo

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Nick: no i will eat everything they give me but i hated all of it equally. the best meals were ones we made ourselves
Phillip: taco nigh is a favorite of everyone . They serve a ton of bens and rice . $ or 5 times a week. They do give chicken twice a month that everyone like , I see how it is handled so I don't care for it

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Nick: no there are no snacks offered. commissary is extremely overpriced and they really don't have much to offer. a ramen soup costs 80 cents and since they go for 12 cents a piece in the store that should tell you something. everything else is equally overpriced.
Phillip: no snacks , I only have experience with commissary here but everyone says it is the most expensive commissary they have ever seen. Supos were several dollars more than other facilities even things like soup and toothpaste was more expensive
