JM: How often could you receive visitors? Nick: you may receive visitors every four days and they
usually have a special schedule for some holidays. Phillip: twice a week but in Middleton it is a horrible
process for the visitor. It takes them over an
hour to get screened in and they re treated very
poorly by the staff. In Lawrence twice a week
also but it isn't uncommon for them to be waiting
in line and have visits canceled for the facility
while they are there
JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you? Nick: yes they often had to wait an hour at least and
sometimes longer. not to mention having to put up
with whatever intake procedures were necessary Phillip: Yes it was. They has to show up well in advance ,
spent a lot of time waiting while nothing
happened . then they were rushed through the
process and treated rudely
JM: What was the visiting environment like? Nick: the visiting environment is a long hallway with
glass on each side and at one end. the inmates are
confined in the hallway and must sit at a chair
facing the person they are visiting with through
glass. you speak to each other on phones and it is
very noisy inside the hallway. Phillip: IN Middleton they were on the other side on plexi
glass talking on the phone. in Lawrence visits
are face to face sometimes outside weather
permitting So in Middleton everything you ay is
listened to In Lawrence its a little better
because its face to face but there is still very
little consideration given to the visitors time
