Interview with Nick and Phillip

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Nick: middleton has between ten and thirteen blocks depending on the population.
Phillip: I could vary as the would open and close gymnasiums filled with bunk beds but when I was there ,

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Nick: 240 a,b,c,d;80 upper and lower;60 bed;120 a and b; and finally voke 1,2,3,and 4
Phillip: 120a, 120b , 60bed, 80 upper , 80 lower , 240a, 240b, 240c, 2440d, voke1, voke2, infirmary

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Nick: 80 upper and lower are drug program, 60 is anger management, 240 b workers,240a program failure and people who refuse programs and people waiting for a program bed,240c and d are all pre-trial,120b gang unit,120a segregation and the vokes are new man and just overflow.
Phillip: voke 1 and 2 were protective custody for inmates who would be in dangers in general population , sex offenders and informants.120a wash the discipline block , 120b gang block, 60bed was a block where they sent wife beaters and those with anger management issues they had programs for them there . 80 upper was pretrial drug and alcohol 80 lower was sentenced drug and alcohol they had programs for them there. 240 b ws the workers block every there worked in some part of the jail. 240 a c d were just regale blocks with no specific designation that I knew of

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Nick: the 240 c and d blocks often have people who will eventually end up in state prison so its a more respectful atmosphere. the vokes and 80 upper and lower are dorm style which sucks. i prefer to be housed in a cell in the 240a or b. i did not go to 120 b or segregation or 60 bed.
Phillip: nothing nice really. The entire place is in disrepair. Some of the blocks have privileges 80 bed doesn't have cells so you are free to move a out the block for most of the day. 240b you are a worker so you get to stay busy I works in the kitchen so I ate better than those that did not. when you are in Lawrence you get to where your own clothing and be outside all day if you want or go on work release
